How to Get the Perfect Photo

Whether you’re using an antique SLR camera or the latest iPhone, there is one secret to the success of getting a perfect photo… light!

I blog a lot of random things, in a lot of random places… each time I get more and more experience setting up my shots. I absolutely love it because each scenario is totally different and I am always learning new things! For a few of my recent posts (Monday vs. Friday, Lippys, and Brownies), I used the same tiny room but set it up in different ways.

 

Here’s three easy steps to help set up for the perfect photo!

1. Find good light! I almost always shoot near a window with nice ambient light, where the sun is NOT shining directly in.

2. Set up your object in a place that will have an even background. In this case, I just used the toilet (lol) and the gray walls, but sometimes I’ll use a neutral colored blanket, towel, or pillow like I did here.

3. Use a reflector. In the pictures below, I used a reflector made for photography.. but there are a lot of natural reflectors that work just as well! Sidewalks, a white piece of paper, or a white pillowcase will do the trick! All you need is something that will naturally reflect the light onto your subject and it will help you create a more even, well lit photo.

If all else fails, just keep practicing! :)
