Trendy Tuesday | Dry Shampoo
A few years ago, an angel came down and gave me a bottle of dry shampoo. I knew right then that my life would never be the same.
Seriously though, this stuff changed my life. I used to be the person that thought it was DISGUSTING (in all caps) to go a day without washing my hair. Now, I can’t even remember what its like to wash my hair everyday. Dry shampoo is one of the sole reasons I am able to keep my hair long without losing my mind or frying my hair by blow drying it everyday.
Batiste dry shampoo was at holy grail status until I discovered that you can make dry shampoo using cornstarch and cocoa powder! I still love Batiste, especially when you need something heavy duty – like that time we took Christmas pictures and I hadn’t washed my hair in three days. The downside of Batiste (for me, at least) is the smell. My favorite smells are Fresh, Cherry, and Tropical but none are that amazing and I smell them all. day. long. They’re not terrible, but I wish the smell faded more so I don’t have to walk around all day smelling like a giant coconut.
For that reason, I usually reach for my DIY shampoo. It is literally the easiest thing to make. All you need is cornstarch and cocoa powder! The cornstarch is where the magic is and the sole purpose of the cocoa powder is to make it a more natural color so it blends better with your hair color! My mix is usually at least 75% cornstarch and just enough cocoa powder to make the mix a light brown color. I promise, you will not smell like a brownie (except for when you run 2 miles on the treadmill). You can also add essential oils to this for fragrance!
If you’re not convinced, give it a try! And I don’t mean just once… it takes time for your hair to get used to it! Hang in there, it’s worth it! :)
