Meet Lucy & Ethel
Meet Lucy and Ethel, two of my mom’s chickens! Lucy made a guest appearance on the blog in our family photo last Christmas, but I thought it was time for a more formal introduction.
My mom had the idea to get chickens last year, and when she asked around to see what fellow chicken owners thought, she heard all good things and determined that chickens make people happy. She said everyone she spoke to about chickens smiled when they talked about them. So there you have it, chickens make people happy!
It was quite the adventure to pick out chickens. We went to our local Family Farm & Home last spring, and my parents made the mistake of bringing myself, my sister, and Austin. We ended up with a few more chickens than they wanted (just one more, Mom!)… but they were all so cute! We started with eight, but gave three away to other loving homes to give ours a little more space. So now, we have Lucy, Ethel, Peg, Gretchen, and Penny.
I don’t know if my mom realized she was in the photos when I was taking them. But here again, she proves that chickens make people smile. :)
This is Ethel when she was just a baby!
And this is Lucy, all grown up! She is the most docile of the chickens – She is so sweet and calm when my mom holds her. :)
