A Day to Myself
Today is unique. It’s a day that I have completely to myself. When I lived in Wisconsin, I had a lot of days like today. The only word I could use to describe this was that it was lovely. I could choose to be selfish – my days were filled with the farmer’s market, yoga, and sitting at the beach with my nose tucked into library books. I loved my routine. But it was also lonely…
Fast forward to my new life in Michigan and every day is filled with plans. It’s constantly go, go, go – rushing between one get together to the next. My life is so full of busyness and so full of love. But sometimes, the introverted part of me really misses the time I used to have to be selfish.
It has been so long since I’ve had a day to myself, but today I do. While many people are working, I have the day off in lieu of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Last night, I asked Austin if there was anything he wanted me to pick up or get done today and his reply was, “Just don’t waste your day. Relax. Do something you enjoy.” How lucky am I?!
So here I am. I was out of bed by 5:30am this morning, and by noon I had conquered vacuuming, dusting, dishes, laundry… I had even showered and put on real clothes! It is SO satisfying to get things accomplished around the house! Now, for the rest of the day I get to be selfish and have some quiet time to do the things that I find so fulfilling – reading, crocheting, playing with my camera, and planning blog posts.
Days like today don’t come as often as they used to… and I cherish them all the more.
Today is a perfect day.

These pretty flowers were a gift from my mom. She says they are Paper White or Narcissus, if you’re curious. :)
