The Beauty of Making Something

There’s an art, a rhythm, a satisfaction, and so many other wonderful things that go along with making something with your hands. I love photography, but I also love making things with my hands. There’s just something extra beautiful about something that was handmade.

I know exactly where I get this appreciation from – my mom. For my entire life, she has always been busy working with her hands. Whether weaving baskets, hooking rugs, knitting, creating stained glass, or one of the many other crafts she has mastered over the years – she always keeps her hands busy. She never rushes or loses her patience when she learns a new skill – she is patient throughout the process and learns to perfect her craft.

I am not to that level of crafting, but I do love to crochet. Patterns are great, but I love when I can make something as simple as this green cowl. A cowl like this only takes an hour or two, and it’s such an easy stitch that it’s super relaxing to do. I splurged on the yarn for this cowl and got this beautiful alpaca and wool blend. It is sooo soft. It’s not just a step up from the yarn I normally use, it’s like three steps up on the softness and cozy scale. I’m just in absolute love with it.

Whether you have a hobby you haven’t touched in a while, you like to create things in the kitchen, or you’re a DIY kind of girl (or guy)…

Get out there and go make something. :)
